"Maneki Neko 50:50" explores the duality of contemporary existence. It reflects on our common tendency to present a curated, endearing facade – the widely accepted, adorable persona designed to attract opportunity and blend seamlessly into societal norms. Beneath this performative surface, however, lies an intrinsic, vital luminescence: our authentic selves. I believe this inner radiance resides within everyone, often obscured by the protective layers we construct. Within the work, vibrant neon lights pierce through the familiar form, symbolizing these obscured yet irrepressible true colors.

On a deeply personal level, the neon also embodies self-identity. It represents an indelible fragment of my essence and serves as a luminous thread connecting me to my roots in the vanishing landscape of old Hong Kong – a way to preserve its fading glow within my present reality.
