ナイフという象徴は、さまざまな意味を内包しています。良いものであれ悪いものであれ、ナイフは手にする者の意志を映し出します。正しく用いられたとき、ナイフは力や強さや回復力、そして高潔さの象徴となり、持ち主に災厄を断ち切り、未来への道を切り開く力を与えます。しかし、誤った手に渡れば、その有用性と同じだけの危険性を持つ道具にもなります。

本作では、性暴力加害者たちの未熟さと自制心の欠如を表すために、おもちゃのナイフを象徴として用いています。

展示空間を使った表現では、無数のおもちゃのナイフを鑑賞者の頭上に吊るしました。これは古代の寓話「ダモクレスの剣」のように、差し迫る脅威によって鑑賞者に不安を呼び起こす装置として機能しています。しかし、寓話に登場する一本の剣とは対照的に、ここにあるのは数えきれないほどのナイフであり、男性優位の社会において女性たちが日々直面せざるを得ない絶え間ない潜在的な脅威の象徴なのです。

単体のおもちゃのナイフと白いレースを用いた写真作品ではモノプリントのシリーズも制作し、この無数のナイフが吊るされた空間に飾ることで、存在の意味を問いています。

ここにあるナイフは私の手によって切り離され、無力化され、その力を奪われています。

私はナイフをコントロールし、額装された「戦利品」として掲げ、平和への祈りとして提示しているのです。

“The Knife as Symbol”

The knife as a symbol carries many meanings. For better or for worse, it takes on the intentions of the one who wields it. Used properly, it becomes a representation of strength, power, resilience, and nobility, giving the user the ability to ward off evil, cut off disasters, and open paths to the future. In the wrong hands it becomes as dangerous as it would otherwise be useful. 

In the installation, I’ve used toy knives to represent the immaturity and lack of self-control that drive the perpetrators of sexual assault. In the exhibition space, I’ve suspended countless toy knives from the ceiling directly above the viewers. As in the ancient parable of the sword of Damocles, the threat of the looming knives instills a sense of anxiety in the viewer. However, in contrast to the single sword of the parable, the knives are innumerable, stark reminders of the innumerable and constant potential threats that women must face daily in a male-dominated society. On the other hand, I have also produced a series of photographs and monoprints featuring the image of a single toy knife with white lace and have exhibited them within the installation, calling into question the duality and meaning of existence. These knives have been isolated, subdued, and stripped of their power by my hands. I have taken control of the knife and present it now as a framed “trophy” and a prayer for peace.
